Our Story
Where History Meets Hospitality in the Heart of West Union
Welcome to Main Street Estate, a Victorian Inn with a heart as warm as its history is rich. Nestled in the heart of West Union, West Virginia, this grand home has stood since 1863 - the very year our state seceded from Virginia during the Civil War.
With original fireplaces, tall ceilings, and handcrafted woodwork, the home still holds the character of its time, while offering the comfort and charm today's travelers deserve.

The Beginning of Main Street Estate
Cindy and Vicky were simply acquaintances who crossed paths at church. But one day, a conversation about "that big white house for sale" sparked something more. Curious and entrepreneurial by nature, they met at the auction, took a spontaneous walkthrough, and scribbled a few repair estimates on the back of an envelope. A handshake in the driveway sealed the deal, and Main Street Estate was born in October 2014.
At the time, Cindy worked full-time as a business analyst for Dominion Energy, and Vicky was a registered nurse in outpatient surgery. Though their professions were far from hospitality, they were aligned on the idea of creating a space that felt like home to every guest who walked through the door.
A Living History
Preserving the Past, One Project at a Time
Built in 1863 and owned by the Twyford family for more than a century, the home has seen generations of care. Mr. George Twyford, once the town’s mayor and founder of a local department store, played a major role in West Union's development, including efforts to pave streets, build churches, and promote the town’s water system.
Many original features still remain thanks to the stewardship of the Twyford family and the thoughtful restoration efforts of Cindy and Vicky, and Vicky's husband, Steve, whose helping hands have been invaluable over the years. Over the years, the inn has undergone essential improvements — from restoring floors and repairing joists, to updating living quarters and uncovering hidden gems beneath seven layers of flooring.
Like any historic home, it’s full of charm, quirks, and ongoing projects. As Cindy and Vicky like to say, "Excuse any dust; it just means something wonderful is in the works!"
